George Nasioutzik’s private art collection is of major importance for the outstanding character of his museum. More than 2.000 objects of unparalleled historic, artistic, and aesthetic value captivate his guests in the mystical atmosphere of past eras. The museum has been working to preserve priceless vestiges of post-Byzantine Greek art and tradition. A collection of portable icons contains magnificent works of great artistic and religious value, such as a 15th century icon of the Virgin and child, an exquisite example of Palaiologan painting, expressing a true exaltation of artistic creation. The tradition of Byzantine and post-Byzantine embroidery is represented by gold embroidered epitaphoioi, paten and chalice veils and vestments. Exquisite ecclesiastical gold- and silverware include filigree crosses of sanctification and benediction, openwork oil lamps, communion cups and Gospel Book covers with embossed Christian representations.

Moreover, a passionate traveller, George Nasioutzik has collected precious antiques and works of art from all over the world. Rugs and carpets from Asia Minor, hand-carved chests from the Aegean islands, rare bukharas from Uzbekistan, authentic woodcarvings, a rare collection of 18th century Tsanak Kale ceramics, invite you to not only travel through time, but follow the collector’s itineraries and discover the treasures from other civilisations and cultures.
